Courtesy tickets for some violators in Skaneateles

Takaping, I also have lived in Skaneateles all my life and remember when the two "Georges" handled the whole town. I agree with you 100%. They do cater to the "seasonal visitors" and the visitors expect it. They look down their noses at us and more or less try to take over the town. They will be receiving the "courtesy tickets" because God forbid we do something to upset them! They do things we aren't allowed. Cross anywhere, walk anywhere, park anywhere. I even held a door for someone the other day and didn't even get a nod! Just sayin the courtesy tickets won't be going to the right people. Us residents should all get medals for putting up with the rudeness all summer. kfr, I am far from a "cop hater" and I have lived in Skaneateles all my life. SPD USED to be a wonderful, valuable resource - not so much the last several years since a new....chief....came in. He's overpaid, wastes the taxpayer's money and does nothing other than suck up to the mayor (whoever that may be at the given time) and cater to our 'seasonal visitors'. If a real crime happens here God help us all because he'd be running for the hills. I'm so sick of the cop haters. One day they're heroes and the next day they're just money collectors. Really? I know some people just need to complain about something all the time, fine, if it makes you feel better. But who will you call when you're in trouble. As for the speeding, cell phone use, and using lights and sirens through traffic lights, has it even occurred to anyone that they might actually know what they're doing? You wouldn't want to pull up at 75mph with your lights and sirens on to a burglary in progress, now would you? Cops are people too and yes, sometimes people make mistakes. But 99% of them are just trying to keep you safe, keep themselves safe, and get home to their family. LilBity, The license plate lamp is not a money ticket. It's a fix-it-ticket, u get it fixed in 24hrs and the ticket is dismissed. The police officer will give u a correction slip with the ticket. You get it fixed then you dont pay a dime. might seem like a dumb law to you, but sometimes it could make all the difference in getting a plate number in a pursuit. Most times if you get a plate # in a pursuit the supervisor will terminate it, thus possibly saving innocent lives. Thus not that dumb of a law.

Skaneateles Talk – Emily Jones Exhibition Opens at Imagine

By: Sandi Mulconry / Group M Communications

Paintings by Syracuse artist Emily Elizabeth Jones will be featured throughout the month of July at Imagine, the fine arts and fine craft gallery at 38 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles.

The exhibition opens July 1 from 6 to 9 p.m., as part of the village’s First Friday celebration. Refreshments will be provided, along with entertainment by the Pond Creek Bogstompers.

Jones, who grew up in Auburn, is a self-taught artist who has been drawing and painting since she was a child. “I am still a young artist, at 26, and consider myself new on the local art scene,” she says.

Jones paints with acrylics on a textured canvas. “I start with the texture, creating a surface I want to work on,” she says. “From there, I add countless layers to give my landscapes depth. I want the viewer to be able to get lost in them.”

Among the works on display will be her “Horizon Colors” series.

“In creating this series, I was focused on the colors in our everyday environment,” she says. “My inspiration revolves around atmospheric colors, and the glares, haziness and reflection brought on by sunlight. I take away all other elements, man-made or natural, so that viewers can focus completely on the colorscapes that they might otherwise overlook.”

After graduating from high school, Jones spent years writing music, releasing a few albums, and going on tour. She is about to continue her studies, with the goal of earning a master’s degree in nursing and becoming a certified anesthetist.

The delay in starting her academic career “was a small price to pay for having seen the country for free and experiencing life in a way that will benefit my art,” she says. “I’ve been exposed to many new people and different places, and was able to share the music I’d created with countless people. Now that I am back home, I look forward to sharing the art I have created.”

Imagine is located in the lakeside village of Skaneateles, nestled in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York. It represents artists from across the country and Canada, along with many Central New York artists, to create one of the most diverse contemporary art collections in the area.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
