Summer season full for Albert County

The county has three of the most popular attractions in New Brunswick and hopes they can boast solid tourist numbers this summer.

This is just a sample of what some attractions have planned for the upcoming season.

The four popular Bay of Fundy attractions - Fundy National Park, Fundy Trails, Hopewell Rocks and Cape Enrage - are in a new partnership that each hope will benefit one another over the summer.

"All four of us are key links with the New Seven Wonders of Nature campaign," said Brian Clark, manager of the Fundy Trails.

The Fundy Trails will have a sawmill project they are finalizing now. It will be an interpretation program on the history of logging on the Bay of Fundy over the last 100 years.

"We want to work together to ensure people have a good Fundy experience," said Noel Hamann, who has been the property manager of Hopewell Rocks for the last 14 years. The Rocks have been the poster child for the Bay of Fundy as it fights to be one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. "We can't predict the outcome, but it's been great for the Bay of Fundy to be mentioned alongside things like the Grand Canyon," he said.

All four have lots of activities ready to go for the upcoming season and are looking forward to seeing lots of people.

"We get to see the Bay of Fundy every day through the eyes of a visitor," Hamann said. "It's so great."

Fundy National Park assures that if you choose them to help celebrate your Canada Day, it will be a good time. They are planning a concert and cake at 7 p.m., with the band Rosedale ready to entertain with their blend of blues, rock, and powerful ballads.

Meanwhile, Judy Tait of the Albert County Clay Company is located right in the heart of the Bay of Fundy strip. Experts in pottery making, they are inviting people to see how it's all done. The Clay Company is just one stop on the Fundy Studio Tour, where people travel to different galleries and studios to experience talented artisan's products. If individuals want to stop in and make a piece of their own, Tait welcomes it. "We don't do lessons, but if someone wants to come in a give it a try, I'll give them a bit of one-on-one time to make a small plate or dish," she said.

Another Fundy Studio Tour stop is the Waterside Farms Cottage Winery, which has got a new product on its shelves.

They have begun making cranberry wine and a sparkling cranberry wine, to go with their line of rhubarb and blueberry wines.

6/17 Pottery Marking Class at the National Museum of Korea | 10 ...

On Friday, June 17th from 10am to 12pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will go to the National Museum of Korea for a pottery making class. This time, we will have an unique opportunity to make “celadon,” called cheong-ja in Korean, which has the distinctive jade-green color.

Though the history of Korean pottery stretches back to the Neolithic age, the pinnacle of Korean pottery was the development and perfection of celadon (cheong-ja) during Korea’s Koryo Dynasty.

Korean artists began creating celadon in the middle of the 10th century by using inlay and copper glazing techniques which were developed first in China. The Korean use of these techniques were unique in the history of pottery. The level of fine quality and beauty they were able to achieve in their work surpassed that of other countries for its elegant, yet simple beauty.

After making the pottery, anyone who is interested can also enjoy a brief English guided tour introducing highlights of the museum from 12pm to 12:40pm.

The pottery you make must be fired afterwards so you will be able to pick up your creations at the Itaewon Global Village Center at a later date.

There is a 5,000 won participation fee for this event. Please come to the center in person to register and pay the fee.

Date: Friday, June 17th
