Major NFL news could be coming out of Minnesota

Maybe, just maybe there will be some major NFL news out of Minnesota today.

No, we’re not expecting a breakthrough in talks between commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith. But the hail mary the Vikings tossed up for a new stadium may turn into a completion. For a touchdown.

The Minneapolis Star Tribube reports an announcement could come later today on a finalized plan for a stadium in Arden Hills, a Twin Cities suburb. According to the report, the cost of the stadium has been dropped by about $200,000 and the team has increased its contribution from $407 million.

“You’re headed in the right direction,” said Sen. Doug Magnus, co-author of the stadium legislation, told the Star Tribune. Magnus however did not confirm specific figures, but said an announcement could come Wednesday.

Lester Bagley, a vice president for the Vikings who is leading the team’s stadium initiative, didn’t say anything conclusive other than idea are being swapped on a daily basis. Lawmakers are meeting to avoid a state government shutdown on Friday, a much more pressing issue for them. The Vikings’ lease at the Metrodome, which remains under construction for a new roof, expires at the end of this season.

you gotta spend money to make money...the state will easily recoupe the 300Mil over the next 30 years and the quality of life here in MN will stay where we want it. If we don't build the stadium we'll lose the team and end up building something in a few years anyway.

Just on player state income taxes (8% in the highest bracket) alone consider this: Vikings Payroll: 145Mil (This number will go up btw)...over 30 years if this number never changes the state will be 348,000,000 richer.

I think it's a shame the public has to do the building of stadiums, but we do what we have to keep up with the times and the Vikes will find someone else to build the stadium if we don't build it.

"over 30 years if this number never changes the state will be 348,000,000 richer."

So let me get this straight, you think a 48 million dollar investment on a 30 year loan of 300 mil is smart? You do not own a business... By the way, the 300 mil will be bonds that will payout what interest rate (which will be payed by tax dollars)? 4.6 is the going rate...

Black people in Minneapolis (Twin Cities) and across the nation should consider changing their political affiliations. This means, do something different – vote for someone else that you’d normally overlook or ignore due to their party alignment. If what we’ve seen in north Minneapolis is the best the DFL political plantation can do – we as a people need to make changes by using our votes to remove and replace the current infrastructure.  Say it loud, “I’m Black and I’m proud…really?”

Video and story by Donald W.R. Allen, II – Editor in Chief/IBNN NEWS

Minneapolis, MN. (IBNN NEWS/June 29, 2011)…There’s something wrong. The African American Leadership Forum has it backwards. As coined on this blog first, “There was a storm in north Minneapolis long before the tornado of May 22nd.”

Today at the team meeting of the Northside Community Response Team held today (6/29) at the prestigious training facility Summit Academy OIC, an unidentified woman walked in and laid it all out. IBNN NEWS was on location and fumbled for the camera to capture what was a true and real depiction of services and money that never reach north Minneapolis residents.

No, this is nothing new – agencies have been riding the gravy-train of disparities in the Black community all the way to the bank for more than 25 years. It seems that every time money is on the table, city departments, non-profit poverty-pimps and some clergy figure out away to win awards and route 90% of the money to operating costs while economic violence continues in the Black community.

Doing something well in the community that doesn’t need to be done has been, and continues to be the flavor of the year in north Minneapolis.
