July 11, 18, & 25, 2011 PERTH AMBOY…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring an HIV support group meeting every Monday, at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone diagnosed with or caring for someone infected with HIV is welcome to attend. Meetings are held at the hospital’s Perth Amboy location, 530 New Brunswick Ave. For location and to register, call 732.442.3700 ext. 5942. July 12, 2011 PERTH AMBOY…Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring an Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Caregivers Support Group meeting Tuesday, July 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia are invited to attend. July 13, 2011 PERTH AMBOY… Raritan Bay Medical Center’s monthly tour of its Dr. Sam. Gordon Berkow Maternity Pavilion and family health information open house will be held Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m. Newly expectant parents are invited to take the tour and learn about the maternity unit’s modern comforts designed to provide a calm and relaxing birthing experience. As part of the event, information is provided in an open house format about child car seat safety, guided imagery and body mechanics training for use during labor, nutritional information for mother and child, how to pick a pediatrician and an infant CPR demonstration. Participants are asked to meet in the main lobby of the hospital’s Perth Amboy location, 530 New Brunswick Ave. Registration suggested, call 732.324.5300.

July 17, 2011 WOODBRIDGE… The Human Motion Institute at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Woodbridge Mayor’s Wellness Committee and the Medical Pavilion at Woodbridge is co-sponsoring a Back-to-School & Sports Physicals Event Sunday, July 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YMCA at the Woodbridge Community Center, 600 Main St., Woodbridge. Free screenings and information include ‘If the Shoe Fits,’ Balance and Posture testing, sports injury prevention, becoming sports-ready at any age, as well as safety tips such as hydration on the athletic field, stretching, nutrition and more. Back-to-school and sports physicals for kids will be available. The fee for school and sports physicals is $75 per student. Health insurance and applicable co-pays will be accepted. I bought myself a natural health magazine at the shop this morning when I went down there to get some groceries and the daily newspaper. I am on a new health kick where I am trying to eat better, do more exercise and also take as many measures as possible to try and reduce the stress and bother that is in my life. A natural health magazine appeared to be as good a place as any to try and get some ideas for all of these factors and indeed it was. Along with the magazine came a free CD that I could put in my computer and this had some guided imagery exercises and also a couple of guided imagery scripts that I could print off and use at home. I am a novice when it comes to the subject but from what I have read it is all about being able to relax yourself and gain strength from your inner self.
