Blues reunion at Shalin Liu

Grammy winner Joe Louis Walker is in Rockport on Friday night for a show that will not only bring the innovative blues, but a particular historical visit of a musician member of the Shalin Liu Performance Center.

The show starts at 7:00 p.m. with a local funk band, Soul Force V, directed by Douglas Henley., A group that often plays at Rhumb Line with its high energy mix of funk horns and soulful voice.

Then the blues legend Walker takes the stage with his band. A versatile blues guitarist, Walker has won several Grammy and WC Handy Blues Music Awards.It is also known as a master of slide guitar.

Known by some as a bluesman from the West Coast, he was born on Christmas Day in San Francisco in 1949. He grew up listening to "music collection, which included greats like Amos Milburn, BB King and Howlin 'Wolf's parents.

At 16, he left the house and teamed up with guitarist Mike Bloomfield, through him Walker was exposed to some of the superstars of rock and blues of the time. Walker has played with musicians such as Steve Miller, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Lightnin 'Hopkins, Earl Hooker and Magic Sat

"I was open to people like Freddie King, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters," he said.

Constant touring and acclaim followed the young guitarist. He won the WC Handy award for Contemporary Male Artist of the Year in 1988 and 1991, and Band of the Year in 1996 with his band Joe Louis Walker & the Bosstalkers. He has published more than 10 albums on Hightone and Verve in the past 13 years.

Walker show includes traditional blues, funk, R & B and rock tinged with blues, soul with a quality that relies on its blues and gospel background.

Walkers group includes other accomplished musicians, and is composed of Dorian Randolph on drums, Lenny Bradford on bass, and singer / songwriter Murali Coryell, guitar and vocals.

That probably wouldn't happen but this is just one of many fun features on this car that will keep a crowd interested at any outing.

The VW Iltis was designed for troops stationed in Germany. There are not many in the US as they were never imported. These are very versatile vehicles and they are a ton of fun! Who would have ever thought you would have the opportunity to have your very own German military vehicle? With four wheel drive you can go almost anywhere.
