USF Students Win $10000 Video Contest
A pair of USF students have won 10-thousand dollars in a video contest, thanks in part to a classic commercial jingle and an eye-catching clip.

Dan Bakst first heard about the "Libby's Jingle Contest" in an email from his mom, but put the idea aside while he and classmate Dan Nguyen worked on their web series " Dennis ," which features Bakst and his roommate, Dennis, an animated reindeer-like creature who doesn't realize how annoying he really is.
During a break in production of "Dennis," the pair went to work on the contest. Bakst, a senior studying television production, came up with a song, while Nguyen, a recent USF pre-med graduate, wrote the lyrics. They based their piece on the Libby's jingle from the 1960s and 70s ("If it says Libby's Libby's Libby's on the label label label...").
They then set up a green screen, actually a large piece of green fabric, and shot a video in which Bakst plays ukelele and sings, while Nguyen and a third friend clap and play percussion. Editing made it look like each man pops out of Libby's fruit and vegetable cans to do their part.
Bakst, 21, and Nguyen, 22, enter quite a few of these contests so they can hone their production and creative skills.
"You could always try out new things we could eventually put in short films, so I like trying out new effects or tricks or something," says Bakst.
"It's also good cause we both like (the TV show) 'Mad Men' a lot, so we have assignments almost, so it's like let's see what we can think of to make for this product."
50 other videos were entered into the contest, and singer-songwriter Jewel picked four finalists. The public was then invited to vote for their favorite on Libby's Facebook page . Of the nearly 3,500 votes cast, Bakst and Nguyen's work received more than 1,800.
"It hasn't hit us," says Bakst. "I think when the ($10,000) check comes in, it's gonna be like, 'Whoa, we actually won a pretty big one.
