University of Iowa consultant's rate higher at part time

IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa is a former director to pay $ 15 000 higher than a month to serve as an advisor of medical affairs and leader of special projects on the medical campus.

Gordon Williams, 66, left full-time position of Chief Operating Officer Healthcare IU in 0365 as a position of "confidential adviser" to Dr. Jean Robillard, vice president of medical affairs, according to a contract of employment on May 10 obtained by an application for registration opened.

The 90-day contract, effective July 1, Williams provides $ 15,047 per month salary but no benefits. The agreement may be extended to three months in increments to a mutual agreement.

"We are extremely fortunate to have a person of quality by Gordon at Iowa," Robillard said Friday. "It was a tremendous asset here."

Williams will be paid at a higher rate as a part-time employee him in his full-time job. Williams IU salary for the year ended June 30 was $ 395,760, which amounts to a monthly rate of $ 32,980. If Williams had worked only 0.365 of the time in his previous job he was paid $ 12,037 a month.

Rather than hiring a full-time employee with benefits, Robillard said the part-time position has a financial sense.

"This saves money for the institution," he said.

Williams, a native of Iowa City, came to IU in 2007 after working as vice dean and chief operating officer and vice chancellor for operations at the Duke University School of Medicine and Health System. Before Duke, Williams has served in leadership roles in companies of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern University.

He first accepted a job as a consultant Robillard in 2007, but has agreed to become interim CEO of UI Hospitals and Clinics after Donna Katen-Bahensky resigned in December 2007. He held this position for 10 months before becoming chief operating officer.

During his time as CEO, Williams dealt with the floods of 2008, finding ways to encourage physicians and patients to hospitals UI for important procedures and treatments.

Williams also had the idea to take 35 employees of the hospital in Orlando for a training session $ 130 000 to the Disney Institute.Iowa lawmakers decried the spending and the user interface has finally Disney trainers in Iowa City at a tenth the cost.

Williams Robillard said this spring that he planned to retire at the end of July, Williams said Friday. But he decided to accept the part-time work and expects to work two days a week.
